Most parts of California are not windy enough to
consider investing in wind turbines but we have a
few niches that can support a wind generator. |

What makes a good wind site
A steady breeze of 12 mph or
more is
essential The only way to know for sure is to install a data-logging
wind meter and plot the output for an entire year unless you can locate
historic wind data to prove the site is worthy. The ability to erect a
tower of at least 45 ft is also important with no nearby trees
that are taller than the tower. This cant be stressed enough
as
any turbulance kills output.
Now the good news.
The California Energy Commission has a program for offering rebates to
customers that are grid-tied (as mentioned elsewhere in this site) and
the rebates apply to wind turbines as well as solar systems. In the
case of wind rebates, the rebate is paid per watt for the max rating of
the wind generator which means that a rebate may pay 50% of
your
total cost. This makes it Worth exploring if you do live somewhere that
blows consistantly. We can help advise you as to which turbines may
work for you and which to steer clear of. This is a growing industry
and no standards are in place and there are is only a handful of
turbines out there that are true performers and many to steer clear of.
We have been doing it long enough to know which is best for you.
